Dakota Wurth, 30
Utah Senate – 5th District

1) What challenges are most pressing for Utahns under 36, and how can you realistically respond within your office?
Cost of living, economic opportunity, and falling Great Salt Lake levels are all existential challenges facing young Utahn's. Realistically the state legislature can do quite a bit in crafting policy that brings down housing costs and helps encourages the development of attainable housing. The same goes for policy that delivers more water to the great salt lake as well as smart economic development policy which attracts higher paying jobs for our local economies.
2) As an elected official, how do you plan to respond to growing authoritarianism, corruption, and assaults on civil rights?
This starts by breaking up the Republican supermajority in the state legislature. I'm unapologetic in my support of ethical government and civil rights. Our legislature needs to be held accountable for supporting and enabling problematic leadership nationally and locally.
3) In a race with multiple candidates asking to represent the Democratic Party, what should make you stand out to Young Democrats?
As a 29 year old city council member who is the youngest elected official in Clearfield's history I know what it's like to break down barriers while being able to go into conservative areas and win overwhelmingly. Which is exactly what it's going to take to win my race. I also have relevant experience in housing which makes me uniquely poised to deliver on policy from day one.
